Horrible bottle! (2009-06-29)
These bottles are awful. As many reviews have also noted, they leak (pour) all over the place. I have actually been so frustrated that I've literally thrown them away (so much for BPA free and environmentally friendly). Nobody should have to deal with faulty bottles AND a crying newborn. Don't buy these bottles.
Major leaking issues (2009-06-27)
I have a 3 1/2 month old son. I started with the extra slow flow nipples with the 4 ounce bottles. I had no leaking issues at all, but when I bought new nipples with a slightly faster slow, they leaked all over. So, I bought new bottles (yes, they are expensive!) that were 9 ounces with the faster flow nipples. They continually leaked on me. I've read reviews with all of these solutions, but I don't have time when my baby is crying or it's the middle of the night to unscrew the lid, take out the nipple, adjust, snap the nipple back on and screw on the lid, hoping it's on the "right" way. I will be calling the number others have left to get a refund. I have switched to Gerber Nuk bottles, and I like them a lot. The milk comes out a bit faster, and it took a few feedings to adjust, but now my son takes them just fine and they don't leak at all. I hope this is helpful!
Love these bottles (2009-06-26)
I have a 3 month old and I mainly breastfeed, but need to give her a bottle some time and I love these bottles. They are easy to clean, there are not a ton of parts, and they do help prevent gas. I tried the gerber nuk bottles, playtex ventaire bottles, and dr. browns and none of them are even close to as nice and easy to deal with as the avent. Plus my daughter loves them.
As for the leaking everyone is complaining about, yes if you do not get the top on right, or the nipple in securely the bottle will leak. But honestly any bottle will leak if those things are not done. The instructions tell you to pull on the nipple in all angles to get it in properly and check for any wear and tear. As for screwing on the top, if it does not feel secure it is probably not secure so I just unscrew and re screw the top on. If you want a leaky bottle try a ventaire!
Works great, no leaks (2009-06-21)
I didn't have problems with the leak. After I take them out of the dishwasher, I would test the bottles before sterilizing them in the microwave. If I had leaking problem, then I would just reposition the nipple. That normally would fix the problem. Out of 12-15 bottles, I would have one that leaks. I also tried the solution recommended by the other reviewers. But it is true. When the bottle leaks, it does pours.
My son likes these bottles. The nipple doesn't collapse on him. We tried many other brands and these seem to work the best for him. I also only paid $11 for 2 bottles. It was a great deal. Otherwise, we were considering other less expensive options. I also like the fact that they are made in England and not Mexico or China. Somehow that is reassuring to me. I also like the hard plastic vs. the some of the other soft plastic bottles.
Zero Stars - Major frustration (2009-06-12)
I'll be 100% honest to you. I want to ship the 5 bottles I have back to Avent along with the cleaning unit I bought for the microwave and include a note saying how upset I am. The most frustrating thing is: you have a baby who is crying and hungry- you bring him the bottle, you finally get him calmed down to drink and then milk leaks every where. You then have to take the nipple out and try to figure out what is wrong. I am sorry that I ever bought these bottles which I paid around $15 EACH. They have made me more mad than anything. If anyone from Avent or Philips wants to contact me please do. I will gladly ship you the bottles back to be recycled. How about recalling these defective bottles?
